I’ve been at Equilibrium for almost two years now after joining from the University of Birmingham where I studied Money Banking and Finance.
From my studies I knew that I wanted to work in the investment side of finance and Equilibrium Asset Management popped up when I was doing some research on different companies.
I really liked the look and feel of the Equilibrium website and as I’m from Cheshire I have family and friends in the area. It wasn’t long before I contacted Equilibrium to see if they had any opportunities and I soon started on a three-month placement.
During my placement I was fortunate enough to work on a variety of projects. I really enjoyed working the investment team, where I now work as a trainee under Partner and Investment Manager Mike Deverell.
Looking back I was very lucky to find such a great company on my doorstep. I’ve realised just how fortunate I am after speaking with friends as I feel that I have real responsibility within my role and the support and guidance I get from the team is unparalleled.
What I would say is that everyone pulls in the same direction. People aren’t fighting to get promotions - we are together and that is infectious. It fits the ideal template of what a company should be.
It doesn’t seem that there are boundaries when it comes to interacting with management. From my first day in the investment team, I never felt under pressure. All I have received has been encouragement to work and work well. From that I end up wanting to better myself and contribute to the team I work in.
I want to be at Equilibrium long-term and that’s because the management team have listened to me - and even went as far as tailoring a role around me. I can’t imagine many places do that which is why it doesn’t surprise me that Equilibrium came fifth in ‘The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For 2017’.
